All this while, I had been following the latihan kejiwaan (spiritual training, or training by the spirit) of Subud.
Subud houses the re-appearance of a divine Energy, the Spirit, the Power of God, on earth at this time. Subud the organization is a rather shabby affair, because all its officers are volunteers, so things don’t always work very well. But the Energy itself, the so-called ‘latihan’ is not the work of humans but of God (I can no longer shy away from that label). By experiencing this, I who was once a devout atheist, came to realize that God indeed exists – and, once I was hooked on It, that It began interfering with my little life.
Jung even anticipated this coming of the Spirit – which I believe is, as he anticipated, the Second Coming. Not of the person of Jesus the Christ, but of the pure Spirit which inspired him. At the end of a short book called ‘Answer to Job’ he foretells the coming and “the in-dwelling of the Holy Ghost, the third Divine Person”.
